Mastermind Your Way to Success

By: Terry Burgess, Founder and Men’s Mid-life Coach, Upward MC

Do you wish to find a way to improve your odds for success in all areas of your life?

One of the best ways you can do this besides hiring a coach is to join a mastermind group.  The concept of mastermind groups may be new to you. However, forms of the mastermind group concept have been implemented by many historical individuals in our past. The first such figure was Jesus Christ with his mastermind group of his 12 apostles.  Jesus’s mastermind group was responsible for sharing Christ’s message of faith, obedience and salvation after his resurrection and ascension to Heaven. Their work resulted in the earliest beginnings of Christianity

Another figure who used the power of mastermind groups is Ben Franklin met weekly with a group of 12 men he referred to as the Junto. The group of men and their meetings were responsible for the inspiration and invention of such things as the city water works in Philadelphia, the fire department in Philadelphia, the birth of the U.S. Postal Service, as well as the creation of a library and a college.

Another form of the mastermind movement you may be familiar with is the cabinet officials as well as the Joint Chiefs of Staff appointed underneath the President of United States.  These individuals help to advise the President on issues that they face as they run our country.

However, it was an author by the name of Napoleon Hill that formally introduced the concept to the general population in his classical book “Think and Grow Rich”.

Hill discusses in the book about the use of small intimate groups of advisors by several of successful businessmen in the industrial revolution period of American History.

The concept of the mastermind is for an exclusive group of individuals to act as your own private board of advisors. They hold you accountable for your actions and the strategy you use to reach your goals and objectives.  If a mastermind is formed correctly it can become an excellent trusteed source of creativity, expertise, and knowledge for the members of the group.

Some of the benefits of participating in a mastermind group include opportunities for collaboration and networking, new knowledge and learning, expanding your view of the world around you, and expanding your marketing of your knowledge and services with a larger audience. Individuals who have discovered this powerful group’s magic report not only having more growth and success but more satisfaction in their career and personal lives.  This is because of the power through the close relationships and bonds formed through the mastermind process.

I will address the ways to find or form a mastermind group which can help you successfully grow personally as well as your business in future blogs.
